Rikrit is the most well-known Thai contemporary artist on the international art world stage. He came to widespread critical recognition in 1990 when he turned a gallery into a kitchen, acted as the chef and prepared Pad Thai for gallery visitors. He subsequently became one of the key artists associated with ‘Relational Aesthetics’, a movement that placed importance on the audience’s shared experience of the environment or situation created by the artist.
