Panya Vijinthanasarn
Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand , 1956
Honored as a ‘National Artist, Visual arts’ (painting) in 2014, Panya was, with Chaloemchai Kositpipat, a co-founder of the ‘Art 23’ group. They were among the Thai artists who painted the murals in the Buddhabadipa Temple, London. Panya’s early paintings wed Thai tradition, idealized nature and surrealistic mythical Thai creatures. His later work addresses the folly of political extremism.
